During the last century, large numbers of music-lovers became devotees of medieval music. But what was medieval about it?

A 14th-century chanson is indeed likely to create a different impression if performed by a Metropolitan Opera Puccini-singing tenor, a straight-voiced unaccompanied contralto , or an ensemble of voices with recorders, cornets and tabor. This talk will investigate changing interpretations of medieval music over ten decades.

Dr Christopher Page is the founder and director of the ensemble Gothic Voices. He teaches English at Cambridge University, where he is a Fellow of Sidney Sussex College.
