Sign, sign, sign! :¬P

Being serious for a moment though, it would make me more likely to consider moving around, and would certainly make it possible for me to live South again (not fiscally possible on even our combined wages!)
You have to be a British citizen or resident to sign this.

Subject: New petition on Key worker status for Librarians & Library workers.

Hej All!

Here is an another example of how we can achieve Key Worker status for all library & Information workers.

I don't expect that we can achieve this in a hurry, but it will help to highlight the issue of the low pay which most librarians & library workers receive.

So - Can you all sign it, & let others know about it too!!!
..............................
It's a nice piece of my work upon the E- petitions part of the 10 Downing St website.

See: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/librarians/

I quote:
' We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to give all Local government librarians & library workers a 'key worker' status.'
.............
Here is the background info which goes with this one:

Public libraries are one of our most valuable resources. They depends upon the knowledge which is deposited with all librarians & library workers. Given that library workers earn much less than what are average incomes, then the only way in which to help safeguard the future of libraries is to at least make sure that all local government librarians & library workers get a 'key worker' status. Failure to do so will result in a major decline in the Public Library service.

Same here - I was shocked to find out they didn't have key worker status already.

Nope, nor are we 'professionals' for mortgages - doctors, teachers etc. are though.

still think the term 'profesional' is out dated and irelivant. A teacher on 17 K a year in a school which may down size is a proifesional whil a computer programer in a high end position is not. Totall sillyness

Technically it refers to someone who has had to take a further qualification in order to be able to do their job, so a computer programmer would not be unless a PhD or MSc was a condition of contract. For all my jobs, an MA is a prerequisite, as is a teaching qualification for a teacher, and an LPC for a lawyer... Basically, it differentiates between jobs which you can get as a graduate, and ones where you have to do something more. Doctors are added in, because their training is so long, as are architects and surveyers, I think.

The problem with the term is that is it means two different things simultaneously. My bitch is that the mortgage companies introduced these mortgages for professionals, which covered those with long qualifying periods, and added teachers, but have excluded all other professions who are not likely to earn over 20k pa. Irony - these mortgages are ones that lend you higher multiples so would actually be of more use to the lower earners who are struggling to afford houses now... *sigh*
